As a particularly dense urban area, the Principality of Monaco doesn’t get away with the phenomenon of automobile congestion and its environmental impacts, making the development of clean mobility one of the main goals of the Prince's Government.
It is with this objective that, at the instigation of HSH Prince Albert II, the State wished to join in the implementation of the Mobee car-sharing service, a system that is both innovative, practical, collaborative and ecological.
Created in 2014 by the Prince's Government in partnership with the EDF group and its subsidiary Izivia, the Mobee service makes it possible to complete a range of strong measures in favor of sustainable mobility in the Principality.
Indeed, a car-sharing vehicle replaces 5 personal cars and frees up 4 parking spaces. The shared car avoids the production of 6 to 8 cars (or 36 tonnes of CO2 over 10 years) and the reduction in the mileage carried out by car reduces the emissions of a subscriber by 1.5 tonnes of CO2 / year.
In July 2019, the Prince's Government, by becoming the sole shareholder of SARL Mobee, wanted the service to develop. Since then, everything has been done in this direction with in particular the installation of a new system and new cars in October 202, then the sale at the end of 2020 of the company to the SMEG to breathe new life into the service.
As major player in energy transition in the Principality, SMEG operates across the entire value chain of energy-related flows.
The Société Monégasque de l'Electricité et du Gaz (SMEG) has been distributing and supplying electricity and gas in the Principality for 130 years.
Energy is at the heart of SMEG’s business. It manages distribution, production and supply throughout the territory of the Principality of Monaco.
It also ensures the maintenance and operation of the area's public lighting installations. Thanks to the energy supplied by the waste recovery center of its subsidiary Société Monégasque d´Assainissement (SMA), SMEG also manages an urban heating and cooling plant: SeaWergie. The historical operator of the Principality of Monaco is diversifying its activities more and more through renewable energies, clean mobility offers, and digital offers.
